Sourdough Phone Cases: Why Bakers Are Putting Bread on Their Phones
Teilen
Here's a thing that's true of every sourdough baker: their phone is part of the process.
It runs the bulk fermentation timer. It holds the hydration calculator. It takes forty-one photographs of the same loaf from marginally different angles. And it spends the entire session propped against a jar on a counter covered in flour.
Which makes the phone case one of the few objects a baker looks at more often than their starter — and one of the very few that almost nobody thinks to buy them.
Why phone cases work as a baking gift
There's no size to get wrong in the way that matters. You need the phone model, which is one question and one answer, rather than chest and length measurements the person may not know themselves.
It's seen constantly. A hoodie gets worn on bake days. A phone case is in their hand roughly a hundred times a day, and every one of those is a small reminder of who gave it to them.
It's a conversation piece by default. People look at each other's phones. A sourdough design gets asked about in a queue in a way a t-shirt under a coat does not.

What to check before ordering
The exact model
This is the one thing that can go wrong. "An iPhone" isn't enough — case dimensions and camera cutouts differ between models and even between the standard, Plus and Pro versions of the same generation.
If you're buying as a gift, get the exact model. The easiest way without spoiling the surprise is to ask them to check Settings → General → About, framed as helping with something else entirely. Or just ask outright — most people would rather be asked than receive a case that doesn't fit.
Available models are listed in the selector on each product page.
Print durability
Phone cases take more physical abuse than any garment. They get dropped, put in bags with keys, and gripped by hands covered in oil and flour.
The design on ours is printed into the case surface rather than applied as a sticker or a wrap, so it doesn't peel at the edges the way an applied film eventually does. It will scuff with genuine hard use over a couple of years — anything that claims otherwise isn't being straight with you — but it won't lift or bubble.
Cleaning
A damp cloth. That's it. Avoid alcohol wipes and abrasive cleaners on the printed face, which is the same advice as for any printed surface and the same advice most people ignore until the first time it goes wrong.
Which designs suit whom
Broadly, our phone cases split three ways.
Artwork designs — bread illustrations, pattern work, the more visual end. These suit people who want the reference without announcing it loudly. They read as a nice case first and a bread thing second.
Text and slogan designs — the ones that say something. Higher risk, higher reward. Excellent for someone whose whole personality is already sourdough; less so for a colleague you don't know well.
Character designs — smiling loaves, starter jars, the friendlier end. These do best as gifts because they're warm rather than pointed, and nobody has ever been offended by a cheerful bread.
Before you order
Every case is made to order — printed after you buy it, which takes 2–5 business days before it ships. Then shipping: 3–5 business days within Germany, 4–8 across the EU and UK, 3–7 to the US and Canada, 8–15 to Australia and the rest of the world.
Because it's produced specifically for your order, we can't exchange it — so the model number is worth double-checking. If it arrives damaged or misprinted, send a photo within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you in full, with nothing to post back.
Common questions
Are printed phone cases durable?
The design is printed into the case surface rather than applied as a film, so it won't peel or bubble at the edges. Expect some scuffing after a couple of years of genuine daily use, as with any case.
How do I know which phone case model to buy as a gift?
You need the exact model, not just the brand — standard, Plus and Pro versions of the same phone have different dimensions and camera cutouts. Ask them directly, or check Settings → General → About on the device.
How do I clean a printed phone case?
A damp cloth. Avoid alcohol wipes and abrasive cleaners on the printed side, which will dull the design over time.
